Submission (as an act of free will for fulfillment, satisfaction and a progressive movement, for good of the one submitting. It is given).
There is also a submission that is not an act of free will, but is forced by threat and fear. This submission is not an act of free will, not fulfilling nor satisfying and is not progressive. It is not good for the one submitted by these means. It is taken. That submission is not what is described here, but the mechanics are basically the same.
First of all, it can be agreed by all, that to progress in living (or anything) there must be knowledge. Knowledge is interesting in and of itself in that to have knowledge, a thought must develop, be applied or intended and acted upon to create an experience. That experience imparts knowledge. Knowledge is not inherent, it is learned, by example or experience and it is taught. Secondly, to learn one must want to learn. This is a first act of humility and a submission. Acknowledging that there is something to learn that one does not already know. Something to learn that someone or something else already holds the knowledge of. Being willing to learn.
To learn, one must be taught. To be taught, one must have a teacher (not necessarily a person, it can be a thing, an experience or example). To the teacher, one must pay attention, come into agreement with or submit to the teaching and the authority of the teacher. To the example or experience, one must submit to the outcome of that experience or the facts of the example and the sum total of the sequence of events and informations leading up to the experiential outcome or the form of the example.
For instance, flying. One sees a bird flying. An example. A desire to fly or learning how to fly becomes an intention, a thought. One then submits to the example that flight is possible. Now one needs to submit to a teacher or an experience to learn. These submissions are professions of a lack of knowing. A humility. An admission of knowledge not held, but attainable. A willingness to be taught, to learn, to submit for a progression or greater good.
Now on to a deeper, even an ultimate submission. Submitting to God. This is a place where humanity gets ruffled. The idea that some one or some thing knows more than humanity (or any one human) is offensive to some. Humility is not present. A willingness to learn at that level is not there. This is not so with all of humanity. Some have submitted to the obvious examples of examples, thoughts and processes far greater than can be imagined or defined by the knowledge and ability of humanity. For instance, which came first..... the chicken or the egg? How big is the universe? How small does small get? Why does humanity exist?
These are questions that beg for a teacher. One who has the knowledge and is willing to teach and impart that knowledge to one willing to learn.
This One is God.
