Evil is real but is not a real thing. It is not subjective, but it is not an entity. Augustine defines evil as disordered love, disordered will. It is a wrong relationship, a non-conformity between our wills and God’s will. God did not make it, we did. That is the point of the fall of man in Genesis. Peter Kreeft: Handbook of Christian Apologetics.
This sets the stage of understanding for creation and eternity. God, in His infinite wisdom, knowledge and love, allows choice and free will, outside of His own, to grow and flourish for the intent of the recognition of what love truly is, against a backdrop of what it is not (evil), with the will and way lovingly shown and provided (in Christ) to return to that holy, infinite embrace that reunites the prodigal with the Father eternally.
